We posted last week about a “reanimation” project centered on the ruins of the great synagogue in Krynki, a small town in a rather remote part of eastern Poland on the border with Belarus.
The initiative included a clean-up of the ruins, removing years of thick vegetation that for years had almost completely hid the site, which includes only the foundation of the building.
It culminated with a “water event” organized by the Polish sculptor Miroslaw Balka — a conceptual art project that brought in a fire hose and created a fountain from the spot where the bimah in the synagogue once stood.
The event didn’t physically restore the synagogue, and wasn’t meant to — but it cleaned up the site, raised awareness of it, and put it back on the map. It also looks like it was a lot of fun.
Here’s an article (in Polish) in the local media about the event.
And a video of the event on GazetaTV:

The list of Festivals in Poland is a great idea but impossible to read. Can anything be done about that? Also, I have asked before, without any response, if anyone knows when the “Days of Remembrance” Ceremonies will take place in Tarnow in 2015?
Gratefully appreciated.
