Georgia
Archeological evidence demonstrates a Jewish presence in Georgia since the 2nd century BCE. According to the World Jewish Congress, in 1979, “nearly half of the 90 synagogues in the Soviet Union were situated in Georgia.” Today there are more than a dozen synagogues (in varying states of use and preservation) around the country. The country recently has become a popular tourist venue for Israelis.
