In this section we include the independent state of Moldova, but also the adjacent, unrecognized  Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria). Both formed the historic area of Bessarabia.

There is an active Jewish community, and Jewish heritage sites in the country have been documented, including synagogues and some 68 Jewish cemeteries.
