The tourism department of Kosice Region in the far east of Slovakia has just uploaded a downloadable guide to Jewish monuments in eastern Slovakia.

The 44-page brochure, available in PDF in English and Slovak, is amply illustrated with photos and drawings and provides information and brief histories of selected synagogues, Jewish cemeteries, memorials, and other sites in more than half a dozen towns and cities: Košice, Bardejov, Michalovce, Pribeník, Spišská Nová Ves, Spišské Podhradie, Prešov, Huncovce, and Kežmarok.
It lists a number of other locations in eastern Slovakia that were once home to significant Jewish communities, some of which have serving Jewish heritage sites.
Importantly, it also includes a source list of nearly a score of websites where you can find more detailed information about Jewish heritage in the region (and all over Slovakia).

The publication more or less coincides with the annual conference on Jewish cultural heritage in Slovakia, organized by the Jewish Cultural Institute, which takes place this year on September 5, in the grand, newly restored synagogue in Trenčín.

The program includes presentations on the reconstruction of the Trenčín synagogue; on what new books with Jewish themes can you find in bookstores, and on which Jewish architectural monuments have undergone recent restoration.
As every year, the conference will include the presentation of the annual Eugen Bárkány prize honoring Jewish heritage work.
The conference takes place in the Slovak language. Organizers ask you to contact kehilatrencin@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
Here is the program for the conference:
