Did you miss something on Jewish Heritage Europe over the past month? Catch up with our monthly Newsletter for MAY, now out!
News, views, and insights from Ukraine, Romania, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary — and more.
This month’s edition includes a link to the must-read Have Your Say personal essay by the distinguished Ukrainian Jewish heritage research Prof. Eugeny Kotlyar, who was forced to flee Kharkiv because of Russian bombing.
Titled Safe In Jewish Places: The Journey Of A Jewish Researcher, Now A Refugee In War-Wracked Ukraine, it describes his journey through Ukraine, which took him and his family through Jewish places he had researched and written about for years — former shtetls that had been home to historic Tzaddikim. He reflects on how he somehow felt safe in these places, redolent of Jewish history and heritage, and the prevailing power of the sages.
We also post a reminder for the “New Realities of Jewish Heritage” conference marking the 10th anniversary of JHE, to take place June 26-27 at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow.
