The annual “Night of the Open Synagogues” takes place in Bucharest and other cities this Saturday night, October 15.
Four synagogues in the capital will be open to the public starting at 8 p.m., each hosting a range of activities including film showings, talks, tours, food and wine tastings, music and dance, theatrical performances, meetings with rabbis, Havada celebrations, and more.
The participating Bucharest synagogues are:
The Choral Synagogue, at str. Sf. Vineri 9-11
The Great Synagogue (Sinagoga Mare), at str. Vasile Adamache 11
Templul Unirea Sfântă (now the Jewish History Museum), at str. Mămulari 3
Yeshua Tova Synagogue, at str. Tache Ionescu 9
The annual festival, sponsored by the Joint Distribution Committee and the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, has been going on for nearly a decade. It is similar to the enormously successful 7@Night Night of the Synagogues festival in Krakow.
Synagogues in some other towns and cities around Romania will also be hosting events (but we do not have the full program).
