Most of us won’t be venturing far from home this summer, thanks to the pandemic. But there are a lot of local Jewish heritage tours and opportunities to visit Jewish heritage sites — we’ll try to keep you informed.
Here are some of the opportunities on the schedule in the coming week. Maybe there’s something in your neighborhood?
Winterswijk, the Netherlands – July 29 — 7 p.m.
Guided tour in Dutch at the city’s synagogue. Reservation required. Cost: €5.

A guided tour in French of the synagogue and the former Jewish quarter. Reservation required, wearing a mask is compulsory. Cost: €10. Time: 9.30 AM. Duration: 90 minutes.
Winterswijk, the Netherlands – July 30
Every Thursday, until August 27th, the synagogue is open for guided tours in German. Time: 7 PM. Registration in advance required. Cost: €5.
During all summer, the synagogue will be open to visitors every Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Every Thursday during the summer, the synagogue in Schirmeck re-opens to the public after several years of closure. Opening time: from 4 PM to 6 PM. Free entrance.
Stockholm, Sweden – July 30 and August 2
Guided tour around the city’s Jewish heritage sites. Until September, this tour starts every Thursday and Sunday at 2 PM. Duration: 1 hour. Cost: 140/120 Swedish crowns. Reservation required.
Weimar, Germany – from July 31 to August 23
Lots of Jewish cultural events and festivals have been cancelled, but Yiddish Summer Weimar is going ahead with a shortened festival — whose workshops etc. will take place outdoors and conform to Coronavirus hygiene measures.

The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews reopens its Core Exhibition after COVID-19 closure.
The former synagogue on Kapellener street opens to visitors, with an exhibition about the Jewish life in the Lower Rhine region. Admission is free. Guided tours for groups and school classes are also available on other days by arrangement. Only a few guests can be admitted at the same time, taking into account the safety rules due to the corona pandemic
A guided tour to the Old Synagogue of Essen and its permanent exhibition. Time: 3 PM. Cost: €5. Registration NOT required, but it is compulsory to wear a mask.

Warsaw, Poland – August 2
- July 29 – Walking tour dedicated to “The Sounds of Muranów”, with the guide Katarzyna Jankowska. The tour is organized by the POLIN – The Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Time: 4 PM. Cost: 20/15/1 zloty.
- August 2 – Walking tour dedicated to the history of the city’s Ghetto during and after the Second World War. The tour is organized by the POLIN – The Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Time: 4 PM. Cost: 20/15/1 zloty.
Turnov, Czech Republic – Every Day
Every day in July and August, the synagogue in Turnov is open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Every Tuesday tours of the Jewish quarter and the Jewish cemetery are organized in the context of the “Turnov Summer” program, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
