A new, illustrated guidebook to Jewish Florence has been published, in English and Italian language editions: Jewish Florence: Illustrated Itinerary, and Firenze ebraica: Itinerario illustrato.
The 80-page softcover guide was published by Aska Edizioni. It was written by Lionella Neppi Modona Viterbo, Giovanna Bossi, and Pia Ranzato, and edited by CoopCulture — the organization that administers the Florence Jewish Museum — in cooperation with the Florence Jewish Community.
It takes in an itinerary that includes the great domed synagogue, a monumental, Moorish style building, inaugurated in 1882, that has a lavishly decorated interior. Its dome is the second largest in Florence, after that of the Duomo (Cathedral).
It also takes visitors to the sites of the former ghetto (razed more than a century ago), as well as other places connected with Jewish history and culture around the city.
