Good morning from California.
I am Judie Cynkus (Cinkiewicz) Rice…..our father was born in Ostralenka with his 5 siblings, raised in Lomza (the house is still standing intact), and the origins of the family were in Nowogrod (Windenberg/Vindenberg/Wildenberg/Vildenberg/Bundendepr) , Warsaw, and we believe also from Sulki/Cyncu.
My brother, Joe Cynkus, and I have been to Poland to visit our towns and cities and cemeteries. I’ve been twice…Krystof was our recent guide this past year.
I’m writing to offer a contribution to the Warsaw Jewish Museum…….our paternal great grandmother had hand-created a wonderful glass bead and needlepoint piece which is signed and dated, on the back, as 1868 Sura Windendepr….along with a few other words which are difficult for us to decipher/translate. The work was framed in an oval piece with glass front by our father and grandfather, both tailors (which was the family trade).
My brother and I would like to donate this lovely heirloom to the museum; from reading we understand that the museum is interested in family pieces reflecting early life in Poland. Both Mark Halprin and Stanley Diamond recommended that we write to the museum about this.
I would be willing to return to Warsaw this year to hand-deliver the artwork.
Thank you for your consideration. I can supply a photograph of the work if need be.
Many thanks, for creating this wonderful museum of our lives and history…we saw the construction work when we were in Warsaw in May, 2012.
Sincerely,
Judie Cynkus Rice
