There is still time to apply for the position of General Manager of the Association of European Jewish Museums (AEJM). Deadline for applications in January 22.
The General Manager will coordinate the work of AEJM Program Managers, represent AEJM within the international museum and heritage community, and ensure the coordinated execution of all programs, partnerships, and internal processes.
The position is designed for freelance work (with the possibility of employment) and requires availability for travel to in-person meetings, events, and conferences across Europe. The honorarium is calculated on a 25-hour-per-week basis, which may vary by project phase depending on the development of AEJM’s activities. All work will be carried out in close coordination with the AEJM Board and other staff members.
The AEJM Board is seeking a candidate with experience in managing cultural or heritage-sector organizations, strong communication and coordination skills, and a deep understanding of institutional development in an international environment.
Tasks Include:
General Management & Strategic Development

An installation, Rome Jewish Museum Supporting the AEJM Board in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policy decisions;
- Managing the operational work of the association and overseeing the implementation of policies and strategic directions as defined by the AEJM Board;
- Representing AEJM in an international environment of museums, heritage institutions, and partner organizations;
- Maintaining ongoing communication with external partners, funders, institutions, and stakeholders to support AEJM’s strategic and programmatic objectives;
- Supporting the Board in writing applications for future grants by defining goals and setting up time plans & financial plans;
- Preparing and organizing meetings of the AEJM Board, the Program Managers & the Administrator, as well as the Annual General Meeting of all members;
- Preparing the contracts, coordinating and supervising the work of all freelance collaborators, ensuring effective planning, coherent alignment across all activities, logistics, partner communication, implementation, and follow-ups;

In the Danish Jewish Museum, Copenhagen Providing a strategic oversight for AEJM’s communication activities, guiding communication priorities and approaches in collaboration with the Communication Assistant;
- Maintaining regular communication with AEJM members and supporting member engagement across the network;
Financial Management & Reporting
- Coordinating with the AEJM Board (particularly with the treasurer), the Administrator, and the accountant service providers to oversee financial processes, including budget planning, expenditure monitoring, and preparation of annual financial reports, in order to ensure transparent and responsible fiscal management;
- Preparing annual reports in alignment with internal and statutory requirements;
- Managing grant reporting obligations, including regular updates, monitoring of deliverables, and submission of required documentation.
