January 27, observed as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp by the advancing Red Army.
Today the former Nazi death camp is a memorial museum visited by more than two million people a year. A commemorative cemetery begins at 4 p.m. CET.
