Attention young scholars!
We are pleased to share this Call for Submissions by the Leo Baeck Institute for the Study of the History and Culture of German-speaking Jewry (LBI) for its 2026 Year Book Essay Prize. The competition is open to recent PhDs and Postdocs who have received their PhD no more than 5 years ago.
Submission deadline is March 31, 2025.
The Essay Prize, established in 2011, aims “to stimulate new research on the history and culture of German-speaking Jewry, and to promote young researchers in the field.”
The essay “can be on any topic relating to German-speaking Central European Jewry, and should have a clear focus on the German-Jewish dimension and context.”
The winner will receive: Publication of the winning essay, a cash prize of £500, and a free year’s print and online subscription to the Leo Baeck Institute Year Book.
Essays should be prepared according to Year Book house style and submitted through the LBI’s online submission system. The essay must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All entries will be peer reviewed anonymously, and the winner will be selected from all entries recommended for publication by the peer reviewers.
