There are many webinars and online talks and presentations of interest these days — too many to note them all. But we want to highlight one coming up next week that will be of particular interest to our readers — a conversation with Prof. Jonathan Webber on the “Zoom into the Forum” platform of Poland’s Forum for Dialogue NGO.
It takes place August 9 at 19:00 CET.
Now retired and based in Krakow, Jonathan is a British social anthropologist who has been engaged for decades in the preservation of Jewish memory and heritage — both built and intangible heritage — in Poland.
Specializing in modern Jewish society, Holocaust studies, Polish–Jewish studies, and Jewish heritage, Webber, a longtime friend of the JHE family, taught for 30 years years at Oxford and Birmingham universities, and then five years at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow. Among his many roles, he co-founded the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow and was a member of The International Auschwitz Council.
One of his projects was commemorating the Jewish history his father’s ancestral town, Brzostek, including the restoration of the Jewish cemetery. This resulted in an award-winning documentary film, A Town Called Brzostek,” directed by Simon Target.
