
The Austrian Jewish Museum (Österreichische Jüdische Museum) in Eisenstadt is seeking a new Director, to replace Johannes Reiss, who has retired. The new Director will take up the post on December 1, 2023. The deadline for applications is August 9, 2023.
The Museum was founded in 1972 as the first Jewish museum in Austria. It is located in the former mansion of Samson Wertheimer (1659-1724), which includes a private synagogue.
Duties of the Director include:
— Organizational and administrative management of the museu
— Personnel management and resource planning
— Budget planning and event planning
— Social media management (Facebook, Instagram) and website development
— Maintaining contact with institutions and religious communities
— Organization and implementation of guided tours
— Implementation of scientific projects and research projects
— Participation in scholarly events
— Scholarly lectures and publications
— Curatorial activity for permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions

Requirements for the application include:
— unrestricted access to the Austrian labor market or Austrian citizenship
— completed higher education (master’s or magister’s degree) in the field of humanities. Jewish studies would be an advantage.
— Good knowledge of the Jewish history of Burgenland and the surrounding area
— Knowledge of the Austrian funding landscape in the field of science (National Fund, FFG, FWF, …)
— Spoken and written English. Knowledge of Hebrew an advantage
— Event management experience
— Experience in scholarly, university or museum work.Experience in museums is an advantage
— Keen interest in Jewish culture and history
— Organisation, planning and coordination skills
