The year 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of Jewish Heritage Europe, and we will be celebrating it throughout the year with special content, online and (we hope) on site events.
Jewish Heritage Europe had its first public presentation on the first night of Hanukkah in 2011, at a holiday reception hosted in Prague by the then- U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Norman Eisen.
We went live two months later, in February 2012.
JHE will mark this special year in different ways and on different platforms — our web site and social media, and also our new YouTube channel.
We’ll also be publishing a 10-Year-Report summarizing our activities over the past decade.
The theme of JHE’s 10th birthday celebrations will be the “Anniversary of Anniversaries” — that is, using JHE’s own anniversary to feature other significant or symbolic anniversaries related to Jewish heritage that also take place this year.
The year 2022 in fact sees a variety of significant Jewish heritage anniversaries.
They include anniversaries related to:
-

2022 marks the 90th anniversary of the death of prolific synagogue architect Lipot Baumhorn (1860-1932) SITES
A number of Jewish heritage sites in Europe, including synagogues, Jewish cemeteries, Jewish museums, memorials, and more, will mark significant anniversaries this year — “round” anniversaries of their foundation, inauguration, reconstruction, and the like.
- PEOPLE
In the context of the “Anniversary of Anniversaries” we will draw attention to people involved in Jewish heritage in Europe, such as synagogue architects, for whom 2022 marks a major anniversary of their birth or death.
- INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS
We will highlight museums and other institutions and organizations revolving around Jewish heritage that are marking the anniversary of their foundation or another significant event.
We’ll be looking back at some notable publications related to Jewish heritage — books, scholarly monographs, tourist guides, surveys and more — that are marking a major anniversary of their launch.
- EVENTS
Several events related to Jewish heritage sites also mark a major anniversary in 2022. These range from exhibits to festivals to conferences to commemorations to the listing as heritage monuments of Jewish sites by national, regional, and local authorities.
If the pandemic allows it, we hope to have an in-person event or two…. so stay tuned for updates!
