Mazel tov to Barbara Staudinger, who has been named the new director of the Jewish Museum of Vienna.
She will take up the position in July 2022, after the conclusion of the mandate of the current director, Danielle Spera, who has led the museum, which is run by the city, since 2010.
Staudinger has served as director of the Augsburg-Swabia Jewish Culture Museum since 2018.
Earlier she was a freelance curator and also worked for many years at the Institute for Jewish History in Austria in St. Poelten and was involved as a curator of numerous exhibitions at the Jewish Museum Munich, the Austrian Museum of Ethnology, the Museum of Ethnology, Vienna and the Jewish Museum Vienna.
“In Barbara Staudinger, the city is gaining an internationally recognized museum expert who will lead the Jewish Museum into the future with a strong concept,” Vienna’s City Councilor for Culture, Veronica Kaup-Hasler, said in a statement.
Building on the great work of Danielle Spera, she will write a new chapter in the history of the museum with a special focus on the scientific processing of the collection, the communication and reception habits of a young generation: digital formats are being expanded, socio-political discourses more in anchored in the city and the collection communicated more intensively.
