(JHE) — Jewish cemeteries have long fascinated photographers. The combination of gravestones (often weathered and sometimes tilted), Hebrew inscriptions, carved decoration — and the nature in which the stones are immersed — create evocative and powerful images.
If you’re in London, the Willesden Jewish Cemetery, which recently reopened as a place of public heritage, invites you to bring your camera (or smartphone) to the cemetery and take part in a photo competition highlighting this theme.
Winning images will be featured on the cemetery’s web site and social media.
Calling all amateur photographers! Participate in our competition to capture something unique about our Cemetery through your lens. We will feature some of the best photographs on our website and social media, and the winning photographer will receive a one-to-one photography lesson with a professional.
The competition runs until October 1.
It takes place as part of National Heritage Open Days , whose theme is “Hidden Nature.”
