Mazel tov to Dr. Kathrin Pieren, who has taken up the post of the first full-time director of the Westphalia Jewish Museum in Dorsten, Germany since the museum opened in 1992.
Dr. Pieren took up her post on July 1. She replaces Dr. Norbert Reichling, who remains the chairman of the museum’s board. A statement by the museum said the full-time position was made possible thanks to institutional funding that started this year from the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association.
A native of Switzerland, Dr. Pieren completed her PhD in Modern history at the University of London with a thesis on the early history of Jewish exhibitions and museums in London.
She comes to the Westphalia Jewish Museum from the Jewish Museum in London, where she was the Collections manager and Curator (social and military history). In the past, she managed the Petersfield Museum and Flora Twort Gallery in East Hampshire, England. She also has been a post-doctorate research fellow at the Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at Southampton University.
The Westphalia Jewish Museum reopened to the public May 12, after being closed for two months due to the coronavirus lockdown.
