Local highschool student volunteers are cleaning up the small Jewish cemetery in Višegrad, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
According to Serbian researcher Jasna Ciric, a group of students from the local Ivo Andric secondary school, along with their teacher, Divna Vasić, on Tuesday repainted the cemetery’s simple gate and cleaned up the area.
Bad weather forced them to halt work, which they planned to continue on Wednesday.
The cemetery is believed to have been founded in 1882, replacing an earlier cemetery whose site lay on the path of a new railway line. At least partly enclose by an old chain-link fence, it like on a hill overlooking the town. Most of the gravestones are Sephardic-style horizontal slabs.
