The restoration of the synagogue in Bytča, Slovakia seems to be progressing….the next stage is the replacement of the windows, and if you want to make a contribution to the project you can now “adopt” a window.
According to the web site, you can choose which window whose replacement you would like to help finance — and your name, or the person you wish to honor, or another name — will be etched into the window frame.
It will be a window of your family, or bear the name of your company, or someone you care about and who thus want to please. […] Whenever you walk around the synagogue, you will feel you have made a significant contribution to the preservation and at the same time you will see exactly specifically where your money is used. You will be forever part of the history of this building. And we will of course take care that people learn of your noble deed. The names of all windows will be published on the Internet, and in the synagogue itself.
The Pressburger Klezmer Band will hold a benefit concent on the Thursday (September 1), when the cost of the individuals windows will be announced.
Meanwhile, you can go onto the web site of the restoration project, see architectural plans, and choose the window you would like to “adopt.” This section is in Slovak only, but each window is illustrated — with the current ruined status and the planned restoration.
