
Mazel tov to Italian scholar and journalist Simonetta Della Seta who has been named the new director of the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS), under development in Ferrara.
An announcement from the Museum’s Foundation said that she will hold the position for the coming four years.
MEIS president Dario Disegni called Della Seta’s appointment an important step in the process of developing the museum, which will be housed in a former prison currently under restoration.
Disegni said the first part of the museum will be opened in Autumn 2017, with the installation of a first major exhibition in the restructured central part of the building.
Della Seta, among other things, is president of the Cultural Commission of the Rome Jewish Community and teaches contemporary Jewish history in the Union of Italian Jewish Communities’ masters program. She was director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Israel from 2004-2008. She has worked as a journalist for various Italian news organizations in Italy and as a correspondent in the Middle East.
