It seems as if the new “Adopt-a-Jewish-Cemetery” initiative launched this month by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage (FODZ) in Poland has struck a chord.
FODZ reports that less than a week since the announcement of the project, eight Jewish cemeteries in Poland are already on the list as potential “adoptees” by groups or individuals abroad for clean-up, maintenance, commemoration or other work — the cemeteries in Klwow, Ropczyce, Sydlowiec, Skarżysko-Kamienna, Wąchock, Jodlowa, Jezow, and Ujazd.
Under the partnership arrangement, FODZ will handle “legal, organizational, and practical matters” in Poland. The outside partner would be responsible for organizing “the project’s concept and financial support.”
