The Remembrance and Future Foundation invites architects, artists, landscape designers and others to submit designs in a competition for a new monument that will honor Poles who saved Jews during the Holocaust. The monument, expected to be unveiled in the autumn of 2015, will be located near the new Museum of the History of Polish Jews, whose grand opening will take place Oct. 28.
According to the Foundation, The competition takes place in two phases, discussion and implementation, with the first phase is intended as “an open artistic debate focused on finding an appropriate method and form of honoring the rescuers in this remarkable location.” Both experienced and young artists wishing to add their designs to the artistic discussion are welcome.
The monument will be entirely financed by private donations from the Jewish community in Israel and abroad. The project has received the support of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Mayor of the City of Warsaw and the leadership of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
The Remembrance and Future Foundation was established in 2013 by the Polish-Jewish American businessman and philanthropist Zygmunt Rolat, a Holocaust survivor, for the purpose of creating a commemoration of Poles who rescued Jews during the World War II German occupation.
