If anyone has heard anything about Jewish culture festivals in Poland, it is probably about the huge and by now venerable Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow, which began in 1988 and is now one of the standout attractions of the Krakow summer.
But — there are dozens of Jewish culture festivals in Poland each year.
Jewish Heritage Europe coordinator Ruth Ellen Gruber keeps partial track of them — and of Jewish culture and other festivals in other European countries — on her Jewish Heritage Travel blog.
But to date there was no comprehensive list of all of them.
That has changed.
Agnieszka Gis, a volunteer at the JCC in Krakow who this summer has been serving as an intern at the Taube Foundation in San Francisco, was charged with researching Jewish culture festivals in Poland and putting together a list of them.
She came up with more than 40! Big ones, small ones; in major cities and in small towns and even villages scattered around the country. Culture festivals, film festivals, music festivals — and more.
Click the link below to access a PDF version of her excel file listing them — you will have to enlarge the text to read. (You can enlarge it in the browser but it may be easier to download the PDF and then enlarge.) And enjoy!
