There’s is still a month left to see Bejt Olam — an ongoing temporary exhibit on the 17th century Jewish cemetery in Břeclav, Czech Republic.
It is displayed in the Municipal Museum — which is sited in the town’s former synagogue.
The exhibition shows the history of the cemetery and the Jewish community, and also details the conservation work that has taken place in recently years.
The cemetery was established in about 1670. The oldest of the approximately 300-400 gravestones dates from the early 18th century. Among highlights are the the grand tomb of the local notable Kuffner family and the Gothic Revival ceremonial hall and a gravedigger’s house, built in 1892 near the cemetery entrance and designed by the architect Franz Neumann.
