Deteriorating Husiatyn, Ukraine fortress synagogue is for rent

The historic, fortress-style synagogue in Husiatyn, Ukraine  is for rent.

Dating from the late 16th-early 17th century, the synagogue is one of four historic sites — the others are two castles and a church — that are for rent by the regional office for state property in the Ternopil region.

Damaged during and after World War II, the synagogue was rebuilt as a local museum in the early 1970s. It was vacated some years ago and has since stood empty, in seriously deteriorating condition.

The official web site listing the synagogue for rent notes that it is an “architectural monument of national importance” and that maintaining it as such is a pre-condition for rental. Suggested use for the building  is to “accommodate objects in the cultural and touristic sphere.”
