For Polish speakers, there will be what should be a fascinating conference in Warsaw May 27-28, about the Okopowa St. Jewish Cemetery in Warsaw. Register by May 15.
Called “The Jewish cemetery at ul. Okopowa in Warsaw. History, maintenance, archeology..” it marks the 10th anniversary of the Cultural Heritage Foundation taking up its work at the cemetery.

It will consist of scholarly presentations on May 27 at the University of Warsaw and then will move to the cemetery itself for a field session on May 28.
It will discuss, present, and review activities that have taken place over the past decade, such as large-scale conservation works, the use of new research technologies, pioneering archaeological work, the development of standards of conservation activities at Jewish funerary monuments, the complexity of commemoration, the discovery of forgotten creators, and cooperation with descendants — as well as activities regarding management of trees and other vegetation in the cemetery — all in accordance with Halacha.
