This Saturday, October 19, is Romania’s annual Night of Open Synagogues, sponsored by the Joint Distribution Committee and the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania.
From 7 to 10 p.m., the synagogues in more than a dozen towns and cities around the country will open their doors to the public, offering a variety of activities.
Participating synagogues are those in Arad, Bacău, Botoşani, Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Focşani, Iaşi, Oradea, Ploieşti, Rămnicu Sărat, Satu Mare, Sibiu, and Timișoara.
JHE’s Ruth Ellen Gruber visited around half of them this summer. Here are some pictures:

Without your incredible work, we would never have the opportunity to learn about and feel proud of the accomplishments of Jewish communities in Europe, who are still struggling to rebuild and fully rebound from the effects and horrors, tragedies and destruction wrought by the Nazis and by World War II and events that predated all of that. We all owe you our enormous debt of gratitude. Thank you for your tireless dedication and your passion for this work.
Thank you!
