We are happy to forward this appeal from the Quincentennial Foundation Jewish Museum of Istanbul regarding its campaign to digitize the records of the Turkish Jewish community. The museum opened in 2001 in the Zulfaris Synagogue, which was built in 1823 on the site of an earlier synagogue dating from 1671.
Dear Friends,
The Quincentennial Foundation Jewish Museum of Istanbul Turkey is launching its new campaign: “Preserving our Past for the Future”. Our aim is to build a virtual museum/library by digitally archiving therecords of the Turkish Jewish Community: photographs, video and audiorecordings, documents, objects and visuals.
Examples of such records could be of:
– Family photographs & documents,
– Family gatherings, religious ceremonies,
– Social gatherings, conferences, plays, musicals, shows, folkdancing and similar events by the social & culture clubs
As it is very important to preserve these records, our officials canpresent vouchers upon receipt of a record and return to the owner theoriginal after making a digital copy.
If you are willing to donate your original record (an object, a document)to the museum, we will make certain that viewers will know it has been donated by the owner.
If you already have some digital records we will be happy to receive themover the Internet, to the following address:
