As part of Summer in the Museum, there will be a walk in the Jewish cemetery on Miodowa street. During the walk, senior curator Anna Jodłowiec will talk about the funeral customs of Jews, introduce visitors to the rich and extremely interesting symbolism of gravestones and discuss elements of gravestones. The number of places is limited, so reservations necessary via the museum

Guided walk around the New Jewish cemetery, with a discussion of funeral traditions and gravestone symbolism, organized by the Jewish Museum branch of the City Museum.

Meeting point is the courtyard of the Old Synagogue,  Szeroka 24.

The group is limited to 16 people.

Installation Ceremony of Information signboard for Nowogród Jewish @ Jewish cemetery | Nowogród | Podlaskie | Poland

There will be a ceremony to install an information signboard at the Jewish cemetery in  Nowogród, Poland.

The signboard was created thanks to the support provided to Friends of Jewish Heritage in Poland by the actress Gwyneth Paltrow, a descendant of 19th century Rabbi Hersz Pelterowicz, rabbi of the Nowogród synagogue district.

Archival research was contributed by Professor Glenn Dynner of Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, New York and Gniewomir Zajączkowski of FODZ.

20 Years Chatam Sofer Memorial exhibition @ Jewish Community Museum Bratislava

A special exhibit marking the 20th anniversary of the underground complex designed by the architect Martin Kvasnica containing remnants of Bratislava’s Old Jewish Cemetery, which was destroyed in 1944, — 23 graves surrounding the Chatam Sofer’s tomb.

Rabbi Moshe Schreiber, known as the Chatam Sofer (or Chasam Sofer), was a renowned rabbi and scholar who was born in Frankfurt am Main on 26 September 1762 (7 Tishrei 5523).

Willesden Jewish Cemetery: 150 years of Heritage 1873 – 2023 Guided Walk

As part of the year long celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Willesden Jewish Cemetery, this guided walk will tell the story of the establishment of the cemetery, highlighting the early years of the United Synagogue, the people who made it happen and their role in the community.

The Willesden Jewish cemetery celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. 

This will be one of the main events.  The cemetery says:

View our new exhibition of archives in the Heritage Centre

• Have a look at the display in the historic grade II listed portico, highlighting some key stories of those buried here

• Enjoy the permanent exhibition and introductory film in the Heritage Centre

• Take a stroll in our transformed historic gardens with a new emphasis on biodiversity!

• Join us on a new free guided walk at 2.30 pm when we will reveal the early history of this unique Cemetery and the people behind its creation

This is a special occasion for our community to celebrate this important milestone. Throughout the afternoon our volunteers will be on hand to share their knowledge of Willesden Jewish Cemetery, Jewish traditions and culture.
