The Swedish Jewish Museum opens with a revamped core exhibition in new premises — a former synagogue that was opened in 1795 and functioned until 1870 when it was sold by the community and the city’s Great Synagogue was built.

European Day of Jewish Culture @ all over Europe | 0

The annual European Day (or Days) of Jewish Culture kicks off September 1st.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event — which takes place in hundreds of locations all over Europe.

JHE Director Ruth Ellen Gruber took part in the meeting in Paris in 1999 that established the EDJC, and she will be writing about it in a post on the web site.

Guided tour @ Great Synagogue Beth Yaacov, Geneva

On the first Sunday of each month, there is a guided tour of the synagogue, an imposing domed building designed in predominantly Moorish style  by the Swiss architect Jean-Henri Bachofen and built in 1857-59.
