Candlelight Concert – 350th Anniversary of the Portuguese Synagogue, Amsterdam

Several times a year, unique concert evenings in the Portuguese Synagogue, lit only by hundreds of candles.

This one celebrates the synagogue’s 350th anniversary. The “Esnoga” was inaugurated in 1675 with a week full of baroque splendor to show how important the “Jews of the Portuguese nation” were for the Dutch Republic.

The  concert program is performed by the bass baritone Ian Pomerantz, an expert in the performance of ancient Jewish music and  the choir of the Portuguese Synagogue,  under the direction of Ilia Belianko.

Note: because the concert contains religious elements, men and women are separated from each other. There is a separate section for men and women for each ticket section.  Tickets are  € 30,00, € 25,00, or  € 20.00 depending on position.
