Founded in 1968, the Center deals with the history, the culture and the traditions of Dutch Jewry. This includes, among others, Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews, their social and cultural history, their literature, their philosophy and art, both in the Netherlands and outside of the Netherlands.
Digital Monument to the Jewish Community in the Netherlands
A commemorative online community and Holocaust memorial that combines community and contact with technology. Every person in the Monument has a separate page commemorating his or her life. This ‘personal page’ gives the person’s most basic personal details. Where possible, it also contains a reconstruction of his or her family relationships. The basic aim is to try to show the circumstances of each individual life.

A museum and educational center set up in the house where Anne Frank and her family hid in a “secret annex.” The web site includes a virtual tour of the secret annex.
The Jewish Cultural Quarter in Amsterdam comprises several museums, institutions, and heritage sites: The Jewish Historical Museum (located in four synagogues), the JHM Children’s Museum, the Portuguese Synagogue, the Ets Haim Library, the National Holocaust Memorial Hollandsche Schouwburg, and the National Holocaust Museum.

The oldest functioning Jewish library in the world, holding about 500 manuscripts and 30,000 printed works, was founded in 1616 and has been housed in the complex of the Portuguese Synagogue since 1675. Many of its unique Hebrew, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch manuscripts have been digitized and can be accessed online.

One of the premier Jewish Museums in Europe, with an excellent and wide-ranging web site. The Jewish Historical Museum is housed in a complex of four former Ashkenazi synagogues dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The museum includes virtual reconstructions of each of these buildings as well a much further information on Dutch Jewish history and heritage. The Museum also includes an innovative Children’s Jewish Museum with special exhibits and educational programs for young visitors. A small selection of the museum’s huge collection is on display. All objects have been digitized and can be viewed online in a searchable database. In addition, the Resource Centre holds approximately 43,000 books, brochures, documents, photographs, and audiovisual titles.

An independent Dutch institute for Jewish studies, supported by the Jewish Historical Museum and the University of Amsterdam. Activities range from setting up and executing (inter)national research projects, organizing symposia and lectures, issuing scientific publications to promoting research into Jewish heritage in the Netherlands, and encouraging the cooperation between researchers working Jewish studies throughout the Netherlands.

Synagogue Museum

The small brick building with arched windows was constructed in 1879 on the site of an earlier synagogue, with a teacher’s residence next to it and a Jewish school opposite. After restoration in 1976, the Regional Music School was housed here. Since 2017 the synagogue has been used as a Jewish museum centering on local Jewish history.
