SUMMARY:10 Centuries of Judaism: A look at Jewish heritage in the Grand Est
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is an opportunity to (re) discover the objects and places of Jewish life through photographs from more than 50 years of study of the general inventory.  They show majestic witnesses of exceptional architecture as well as quality goldsmithery and more humble objects of daily life\, sometimes from Genizot. From the evocation of the work of Talmudist Rashi (v. 1040-1105) to the synagogues rebuilt after the Second World War\, the exhibition  touches nearly ten centuries of Judaism in the Grand Est. The exhibit is in Bouxwiller after being presented  for the first time in Strasbourg\, in 2019\, and then Troyes in 2024. \nVisit: \nWednesdays\, Thursdays\, Fridays\, Sundays and public holidays \n10 a.m./13 a.m. – 2 p.m. to 6 p. \n

SUMMARY:An Italian Journey: Discovering the Jewish Cultural Heritage
DESCRIPTION:A temporary exhibit at Italy’s  National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS) in Ferrara uses archival photographs\, documents\, and correspondence to “rethink” Italy’s Jewish heritage and show how it is an integral part of the country’s landscape and history. \n\n\nCalled “An Italian Journey: Discovering the Jewish Cultural Heritage\,” the exhibit opened October 10 and will run until June 14\, 2026. \n\nThe contents of the exhibition come from two archives: the collection of Ernő Munkácsi in the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives in Budapest\, which features images of Jewish Italy gathered between 1927 and 1940\, and the photographic and documentary archive of the Federazione delle Associazioni Culturali Ebraiche (Federation of Jewish Cultural Associations)\, from the 1920s and 1930s. \n

SUMMARY:Talk in NYC by Karolina and Piotr Jakowenko
DESCRIPTION:The founders of the Brama Zuckerman Foundation – Karolina and Piotr Jakowenko\, will present the Foundation’s activities. The event will focus on their newest historical project: Ghetto Fighters’ House in Bedzin.   \nThe meeting will be led by Menachem Z. Rosensaft – general counselor of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and professor – lecturer at the Cornell University Law Department. \nThe event is co-organized by Polish Cultural Institute New York and Hebrew Union College. \nIn 1943\, the current Ghetto Fighters House in Bedzin was the headquarters of the Jewish Combat Organization\, Zionist Youth groups and a center of resistance in the Bedzin ghetto. Thanks to the efforts of Karolina and Peter\, this important site of Jewish memory has become a Living Monument to Jewish resistance and a vibrant educational centre\, with over 10\,000 student visits in 2025 alone.\n \nGeneral knowledge of the Jewish resistance during the Holocaust is usually limited to the history of the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. In their research\, the members of the Brama Zukerman foundation focus on other – lesser-known stories of Jewish struggles in the Polish provinces. Their pioneering research explores the themes of various  forms of resistance\, including that led by teenagers\, often young women. Despite their modest means\,  they fought Hitler by building hideouts – bunkers\, organizing escapes\, and helping others escape the ghettos and deportation.\nDuring the meeting\, Karolina and Piotr will speak about the multifaceted importance this remarkable story can have in the modern fight against antisemitism.\nRegistration is required  — Please send an email to: bartek.remisko@instytutpolski.pl to confirm your attendance.
