SUMMARY:Brest Litovsk Holocaust Memorial Inauguration
DESCRIPTION:Official opening of the Holocaust memorial on the site of the Jewish cemetery\, composed of rescued matzevot.  \nDesigned by the American artist Brad J. Goldberg\, the monument is an example of landscape art\, and will entail a broken circle of wall and walkway embracing a forest of around 600 re-erected matzevot or fragments. It will be built on land that was part of the destroyed cemetery. \nThe  British NGO the Together Plan\, dedicated to Jewish community development in Belarus\, is coordinating the project  in collaboration with its partner organisation in the USA\, Jewish Tapestry Project\, the Religious Jewish Union of Belarus\, and the international charitable organization Dialog in Belarus. \nThe salvaged gravestone remnants — all that remains of Brest’s once-vast Jewish cemetery — were removed from storage and returned to the cemetery on April 24. SUMMARY:AEJM Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Under the title “Jewish Museums and Democracy” this year’s conference brings together museum professionals\, scholars\, and cultural practitioners from across Europe and beyond. \nThey will reflect on how Jewish museums can foster critical thinking\, strengthen civic engagement\, and remain relevant to diverse audiences. \nThe upcoming overhaul of the mahJ’s permanent exhibition (2027–2030) provides an opportunity to reflect\, beyond the evocation of Jewish history and life\, on the role of Jewish museums in relation to these developments: the promises\, achievements\, and threats to democracy in times of rising “illiberal” or even dictatorial evolutions\, the return of war\, and rising anti-Semitism in Europe. \nSee details and program

SUMMARY:10 Centuries of Judaism: A look at Jewish heritage in the Grand Est
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is an opportunity to (re) discover the objects and places of Jewish life through photographs from more than 50 years of study of the general inventory.  They show majestic witnesses of exceptional architecture as well as quality goldsmithery and more humble objects of daily life\, sometimes from Genizot. From the evocation of the work of Talmudist Rashi (v. 1040-1105) to the synagogues rebuilt after the Second World War\, the exhibition  touches nearly ten centuries of Judaism in the Grand Est. The exhibit is in Bouxwiller after being presented  for the first time in Strasbourg\, in 2019\, and then Troyes in 2024. \nVisit: \nWednesdays\, Thursdays\, Fridays\, Sundays and public holidays \n10 a.m./13 a.m. – 2 p.m. to 6 p. \n
