A series of events in November and December celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Grande Synagogue. The series kicks off November 9 with an official ceremony.

A celebratory event marks the 20th anniversary of the little Jewish Museum, located in the synagogue complex in the hill town of Pitigliano in southern Tuscany.
This year also marks the 400th anniversary of the imposition of a ghetto in Pitigliano.
The anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945, marked as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in many countries with commemorations, educational programs, etc.
A number of events are marking the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, including a conference, exhibit, monument dedication, at the POLIN Museum, Warsaw’s Okopowa Jewish cemetery, and elsewhere.
For German speakers, we want to highlight an upcoming lecture series about Jewish museums in Europe, held both digitally and at the Simon Dubnow Institute, each Thursday in June, with an introductory lecture on May 11. (For digital events, you will find the access link on the Dubnow Institute homepage a few days before the event. Registration is not required.)
Talks focus on:
Why, when, where, and on behalf of whom is and was the exhibition of Jewish history regarded as relevant? What actors have supported the establishment of Jewish Museums, and who has tried to prevent them?
A focus will also lie on the manner in which Jewish history has been exhibited in the past and present, and how it could be exhibited in future: What narratives have exhibitions developed? What objects are regarded and conveyed as Jewish? What emphases are placed and what omissions have there been? What is the future of Jewish Museums?

A two-day event celebrates the 120th anniversary of the New Synagogue in Szeged, Hungary, the masterpiece of prolific synagogue architect Lipot Baumhorn. The synagogue was inaugurated on May 19, 1903.
There will be a talk about the synagogue’s history and architecture, and that of the Old Synagogue, and also other presentations, including about the noted rabbis Lipot and Immanual Löw, as well as a talk by the Szeged mayor about the synagogue’s role in the city.
