The Festival brings together both the work of the National Lottery Heritage project “Connecting Small Histories” and 12 other major Jewish Heritage projects.
“Connecting Small Histories” draws the footprint of Jewish life in what are now small or former communities across the United Kingdom. Through stories and memories it identifies the Jewish legacy in the local economies and culture, beginning with six very different locations, Eastbourne, St Annes, Bradford, Sunderland, Cumbria and Somerset.
After almost twelve months of work, the History Festival begins the telling of these “Small Histories”, bringing both them and a wide selection of projects from the project’s Heritage Hub to a wider public.
The program brings together story tellers, academics, our volunteer researchers and the research team, to paint a picture of Jewish life and heritage spread wide across the country, in towns and countryside.

Join JHE’s Ruth Ellen Gruber, the AEPJ’s Victor Sorenssen and the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland Foundation‘s Helise Lieberman for a wide-ranging round-table on the realities of Jewish monuments and heritage sites in Europe – from their destruction during and after the Shoah and the ‘Jewish archaeology’ of their documentation and rediscovery to the multiple challenges and strategies for their preservation and future use for religious purposes, education, tourism, culture, commemoration, and more.
The discussion will be moderated by Bill Echikson, Brussels Director of the European Union for Progressive Judaism.
The catalyst for the conversation is a set of strategic guidelines issued by Sally Berkovic, the CEO of the Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv) Europe. Called “10 (other) Commandments – for the Care of Jewish Heritage.” They provide a framework to look back at what has happened, assess the current situation, and focus on the future.

Why should Jewish heritage matter? To whom does it belong? Who are the responsible stakeholders in its preservation? How can we ensure its future?
A #TJHTalks program organized in partnership with the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage, and Jewish Heritage Hard Talk.
Four experts will respond to these questions from global, regional, national, and local perspectives. They will discuss achievements thus far and how cooperation and strategic thinking are necessary to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
The webinar will include a 45-minute discussion, followed by a 15-minute Q&A, in which you can ask questions submitted before or during the broadcast.

Take a a virtual tour of Bialystok with Tomasz Wisniewski, an expert in Jewish history of Podlasie region, who will guide viewers through the city space and history of Bialystok, a home to Jewish community from the mid-17th century. Join in to listen to the history of Jewish community of Bialystok: its role in the rapid development of the town in the 19th century, social and cultural life in early 20th century, and the fate of Jews during Soviet and Nazi occupation.
The tour is part of the regular “Zoom in” program of the Forum for Dialogue NGO.
Wisniewski has been working for more than 30 years to preserve the memory of the Jewish communities of Poland’s eastern borderland. He created the web site jewishbialystok.pl as an online museum of Jewish history in the region and he received the POLIN museum award in 2018.
He has written several books, including a guidebook to Jewish Bialystok and surroundings, and on his YouTube channel you can find more than 2,000 films presenting Jewish history of the region. He has documented Jewish cemeteries and runs the site bagnowka.pl, which collects data on almost 40,000 tombstones, mainly Jewish ones, and also presents other heritage information.
The 30th Krakow Jewish Culture Festival will take place on-site and also on-line.

They include the events held in the JCF Tent, concerts organized in the Museum of Urban Engineering, Collegium Maius and the Tempel synagogue.
After the end of the live stream, they will be able to be accessed in the event archives.
The fourth edition of the Day of Jewish Monuments in the Czech Republic. There is a smartphone app as well as an interactive map on the Day’s web site to help visitors.
More than 50 selected Jewish heritage sites in more than 40 towns in Bohemia, Moravia, and Czech Silesia will be open to visitors. They include synagogues, Jewish cemeteries, museums, and other sites. Some of them are generally closed to the public; some have recently undergone extensive renovation or are in the process of restoration.
There are various associated events such as guided tours and concerts.
The event is organized by the Jewish community in Prague in cooperation with Matana, the administrative body for Jewish property, the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic and other regional partners.
