MERTHYR TYDFIL
Abandoned neo-Gothic synagogue and Jewish cemetery. The synagogue is under development as a Jewish culture and heritage centre.
Synagogue
Bryntirion Road
Thomastown, Merthyr Tydfil
The oldest synagogue building in Wales, and a Grade II listed building. A neo-Gothic style style building constructed in the 1870s, it has not been used as a synagogue since the 1980s, standing empty, with a bare, deteriorating interior. Already in 2009 planning permission had been granted to convert it into flats. In September 2019 it was obtained by the Foundation for Jewish Heritage, which is spearheading its restoration and development as the site of a Welsh Jewish heritage center.

Jewish Cemetery
Brecon Road
Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil
Established 1865 and extended in 1935, it has more than 620 burials. The ceremonial hall includes plaques taken from the now closed synagogue.
