Mazel tov to Dr. Barbara Staudinger, named the new director of the Augsburg-Swabia Jewish Culture Museum, taking over from Dr. Benigna Schönhagen, who is retiring.
One of the leading Jewish museums in Germany, the Augsburg museum was founded in 1985 as the first independent Jewish museum in postwar Germany. It is located in the west wing of the Augsburg synagogue (which celebrated its centenary last year). Its current permanent exhibition celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016.

Staudinger studied history, theater studies and Jewish studies at the University of Vienna. In 2001 she received her doctorate with a study on anti-Semitism and Jewish legal position on Reichshofrat 1559-1670. She is currently a freelance curator in Vienna and co-curator of the new Austrian exhibition “Distance. Austria and Auschwitz “in the Auschwitz-Birkenau. Previously, she worked for many years at the Institute for Jewish History in Austria in St. Poelten and was involved as a curator of numerous exhibitions at the Jewish Museum Munich, the Austrian Museum of Ethnology, the Museum of Ethnology, Vienna and the Jewish Museum Vienna.
