A recently launched online database and interactive map locates Holocaust memorial sites in Latvia.
The database, Holocaust Memorial Places in Latvia, was elaborated “within the framework of a project of the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Latvia, carried out under the patronage and with the partial financial support of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in close collaboration with the Council of Jewish Communities of Latvia and the Jews in Latvia museum.”
It contains map of the Jewish killing sites and a structured information on the each site – a brief history, location, characteristics and a reference to the related names of Jews.
It also includes a list of links to other sources of information, including databases on Jewish history in Latvia.
The project directors are Prof. Ruvin Ferber, University of Latvia, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Judaic Studies and Karina Barkane, PhD student at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Latvia, Executive Director of the Center for Judaic Studies.
