The European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative reports that it will begin work in early May on a special project, funded by Germany, to renovate the roof of the pre-burial house (Bet Tahara) at the Jewish Cemetery of Chernivtsi (Chernowitz) in south-western Ukraine. Work is expected to be complete around October.

Last week, ESJF Chief Engineer Gryhorii Arshinov agreed the construction plan during meetings in the city. Funded by a special grant from the German Federal Foreign Ministry, the ESJF will begin renovation of the dilapidated roof at the site.

The site is slated to become a Museum of the Holocaust, to be called the Museum of the Holocaust of the Jews of Bukovina.
