MACEVA, the Lithuanian Jewish cemetery catalogue, has published a report providing an overview of its activities in 2015 — including documentation of cemeteries, digitization of photographs of headstones, cemetery clean-up workshops and other activities.
Highlights include:
— an international two-week “summer camp” project in August for German, French, Bulgarian and Lithuanian young people
— Documentation and digitization of cemeteries, withthe help of local schools and volunteers from Israel, Germany, France, Bulgaria, Lithuania and elsewhere. The cemeteries included those in Valkininkai (Olkenik), Nemunaitis (Nemoneitz), Senoji Žagarė (Alt-Zhager), Žiežmariai (Zhezmir), Kaunas Vilijampolė (Slabodke; partially), Rokiškis (Rakishok; complete).
— Visits and updates carried out at eight other cemeteries.
— Cooperation agreement signed with the Municipality for work on the Kaunas Jewish cemetery.

Evoking the textures of place signifies also the hard and wounding narratives ,the strata of a history ,emerging names out anonymity .
