Mazel tov! The Polish government has awarded high state honors to the creators of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
At a ceremony this week, Culture Minister Małgorzata Omilanowska presented medals to a long list of people who contributed to the creation of the museum, which had its grade opening Oct. 28, 2014.

The Gold Medal Gloria Artis (Distinguished for Culture) was presented to Marian Turski, Deputy Chairman of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute who had been involved in the creation of POLIN Museum from the very beginning.
The Silver Medal Gloria Artis (Distinguished for Culture) was awarded to Jan Jagielski, and the Bronze Medals Gloria Artis (Distinguished for Culture) were presented to Alina Cała (who refused to accept it), Mirosław Nizio and Sharon Felicity Ross. The Honorary medals “Distinguished for Polish Culture” were presented to: Nili Amit, Arnaud Dechelle, Joanna Fikus, Kalina Gawlas, Kathy Jones, Samuel D. Kassow, Igor Kąkolewski, Piotr Kowalik, Stanisław Krajewski, Jacek Leociak, Stephen Richard Lumby, Marta Prochwicz, Janusz Ryszard Roszkowski, Piotr Rytka-Zandberg, Alina Skibińska, Albert Stankowski, Robert Supeł, Ewa Szymańska-Wierzyńska, Adam Teller, Hanna Węgrzynek, Marta Halina Wróbel and Hanna Zaremska.
“We have honoured people who co-created POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and its core exhibition,” said at the ceremony. “It was a very spectacular event for Polish culture. The core exhibition stirs huge interest and has garnered high acclaim, both in Poland and abroad. The Museum is unvaryingly praised. The people who were awarded medals today fulfilled their task with passion and commitment and they fulfilled it truly well.”

Just curious to know why Alina Cała didn’t accept her award.
