“An Unfinished Memory,” an exhibit by the American photographer Jason Francisco of photographs of Jewish heritage and heritage sites in western Ukraine, has opened as a new permanent exhibition at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow.
The photographs — with explanatory/evocative text — can all be seen online at Francisco’s web site.
Dealing with the place, role and symbolic power of Jewish heritage sites and traces today, the images are a sort of update and counterpoint to the photos by the museum’s founder, the late British photographer Chris Schwarz, that were taken in Poland in the 1990s and which to date have formed the core of the museum’s permanent exhibit.
