Jewish Cemetery vandalized in Poland; police investigating

The Jewish cemetery in Wysokie Mazowieckie, near Bialystok in northeastern Poland, was vandalized the night of March 18. Monika Krawczyk, the CEO of FODZ, the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, reports that police are investigating the incident, which is the latest in a series of vandal attacks against Jewish heritage sites in that part of Poland. FODZ renovated the cemetery in 2006 and regularly maintains it, and the cemetery is enclosed by a fence.

Monika has provided photographs showing the damage: graffiti of swastikas and anti-Semitic slogans and images spray-painted on the cemetery entrance, a Holocaust memorial and gravestones.
